The Lake Titicaca Full Day Tour provides access to the world’s highest navigable lake located between Peru and Bolivia. This lake was inhabited by significant pre-Inca cultures. Within the lake, islands exist that have been inhabited for centuries including Amantani Island and Taquile Island which still maintain customs and traditions from their ancestors the Incas and the Aymaras.
Puno a region situated on the Peruvian-Bolivian altiplano 12556 feet (3827 meters) was the development site of several pre-Inca cultures such as the Lupacas Pucaras Uros and notably the Tiahuanaco Culture. One of the sacred locations in Andean culture was and remains Lake Titicaca. The day commences with hotel pickup in Puno City. Subsequently transport proceeds to the Port of Puno. Here boarding onto a boat occurs. Following a 30-minute journey arrival at the Uros Islands an ancestral Aymara people settlement. These inhabitants reside on artificial floating islands constructed from Totora a prevalent aquatic plant surrounding the Uros Islands.
The Uros Floating Islands residents demonstrate their adaptation to the Peruvian altiplano despite the adverse climate. The Uros have inhabited these artificial islands for centuries during which bird hunting egg collection and fishing were primary activities. Currently tourism is the primary activity and therefore they offer experiences and demonstrate their historical and ongoing life on Lake Titicaca.
Subsequent to the Uros Islands visit the tour continues on Lake Titicaca. After a two-hour boat journey arrival at Taquile Island one of the larger islands on Lake Titicaca occurs.
Taquile is a significant Lake Titicaca island because it hosts people who retain customs and traditions from the Inca era. Many visitors describe Taquile as possessing a living culture. The island residents still wear colonial-era clothing with notable textiles produced by the male inhabitants. Lunch is provided here.
Following this visit boarding onto the boat for return transport to Puno City occurs. If a Puno to Cusco bus reservation exists transport will be provided to the vicinity of the Puno bus terminal.
